Your PDF is processed entirely inside your browser. The file never leaves your device and is discarded from memory when you close the tab.
Some PDFs are already optimized. In that case compression may not reduce the file size. When this happens, the tool returns your original file and lets you know.
The default compression re-encodes pages as images for maximum size reduction. Enable "Preserve text" to keep text selectable and fonts sharp, or try the Recommended or High Quality level.
You can upload a PDF up to 200 MB. Very large files take longer because all the work happens on your own device.
It depends on the mode. Lossless stream optimization preserves full quality. If the tool falls back to raster compression, some quality is traded for size — "High quality" keeps pages sharp for printing, while "Maximum" targets the smallest file.
